Children's Medicaid Coverage

Children's Medicaid is a federally funded health care program through the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The purpose of the program is to provide health care to uninsured children around the country who are from low income families. While the qualifications and program details vary from state to state, all states have this primary mission in common.

Qualifying for CHIP

By providing coverage to children who lack health insurance, Children's Medicaid helps low income families pay for medical costs to ensure that their children get the health care they need. To be eligible for CHIP coverage a family must meet the following requirements:

The prospective child or children must be 18 years old or younger.
The family must be residents of the state from which they are requesting coverage.
The uninsured child must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

CHIP Medical Coverage

Children's Medicaid covers a number of medical services to help children develop into healthy adults. If your child qualifies for health care coverage under CHIP, he or she will have access to regular doctor and dental visits throughout childhood. In addition, CHIP can help with any specific illnesses or health complications that your child may have by covering the following:

School vaccinations and immunizations
Specialized medical care
Hospital treatment
Drug prescriptions
Eye examinations and correctional lenses
